How practitioners can create and share parenting and play ideas with local families

Every day, practitioners across the country support parents and caregivers with practical advice, creative activity ideas, and guidance that helps children thrive. Whether you're running a Family Hub session, supporting families in a nursery setting, delivering home visits, or working directly with parents and caregivers in your community, you have valuable knowledge and experience to share.

That's why we've developed EasyPeasy's Local Practitioner Content feature, which gives practitioners the opportunity to create and share their own parenting tips, activities, and ideas directly within the EasyPeasy app.

What is Local Practitioner Content?

Local Practitioner Content enables local practitioners to design and publish their own content using EasyPeasy's in-app Create feature. This content sits alongside EasyPeasy's evidence-based content library and can be used to share:

  • Play and learning activities
  • Parenting tips and guidance
  • Ideas linked to local Family Hub programmes
  • Support around local priorities such as speech and language, routines, wellbeing, school readiness, SEND and more
  • Information that reflects the needs of families in your local community

Content can include text, images, illustrations, audio, video, GIFs and animations, helping practitioners bring their ideas to life in an engaging and easy-to-digest format that works for families. Parents and caregivers can then discover this content through their EasyPeasy feed and relevant topic areas within the app.

Why create your own content on the EasyPeasy app?

Early years practitioners already create and share brilliant ideas with families every day. Local Practitioner Content provides a simple way to extend that support beyond face-to-face interactions and reach families whenever and wherever they need it. By sharing content through EasyPeasy, you can:

  • Support families with trusted, locally relevant guidance
  • Reinforce key messages from your services and programmes
  • Help parents discover practical ideas they can try at home
  • Increase engagement with local Family Hub and early years services
  • Reach more families than you could through in-person support alone

For families, it means access to guidance from practitioners who understand their local community and the challenges they face.

How practitioners and families are benefiting

Practitioners across Kent have been making great use of Local Practitioner Content through dedicated Family Hub profiles within the EasyPeasy app.

Local Practitioner Content

One Family Hub Support Worker explained how they draw on their professional experience when creating content:

"I create the content using my experiences within my 12 years of working in childcare, and also in my current role. Over the years, I have collected a lot of activity ideas which I can implement into my role and the groups that I run."

The content also provides a practical way to continue supporting families outside of sessions and groups.

"I often come across parents and carers who tell me that their child is bored or that they have run out of ideas of what to do with them. Under these circumstances, I can then suggest checking the EasyPeasy app as there are so many different ideas and support on there."

The practitioner also highlighted how the feature has become a valuable resource within their own day-to-day practice:

"I like that I have somewhere to put all of my ideas and search for new ideas too. Previously, I was using Pinterest, whereas this is better as it helps in specific areas of development with more detail and fewer links directing me to other websites."

Getting started in 4 practical steps

If Local Practitioner Content is available in your area, getting started is simple. If you’re unsure whether your local authority has access to Local Practitioner Content, speak to your local EasyPeasy lead, Family Hub manager, or contact the EasyPeasy team for support.

Step 1: Download the EasyPeasy app

To start creating content, you’ll first need to download the EasyPeasy app via the iOS App Store or Play Store and register a practitioner account. If your area has commissioned the Localisation Module, practitioners associated with your local authority will be given access to EasyPeasy’s Create feature once it has been activated for your area. You’ll then find the Create section on your app homescreen, in the bottom navigation bar.

Step 2: Think about the families you support

Consider the questions parents ask most often. What challenges come up regularly in your groups, appointments or conversations? These are often great starting points for content. Common topics might include:

  • Supporting communication and language
  • Creating routines
  • Toilet training
  • Emotional wellbeing
  • Play ideas using everyday household items
  • Preparing children for nursery or school

Step 3: Keep it practical and achievable

Parents value ideas that are simple, realistic and easy to fit into everyday family life. Focus on activities that use everyday household items, encourage parent-child interaction, support children's development, and feel achievable for busy families. You don't need to reinvent the wheel. Many practitioners already have activities, resources and ideas that families love. Local Practitioner Content allows you to turn these into shareable content within the EasyPeasy app that can then be shared to support many more families.

The feature is also a great way to reinforce local Family Hub programmes and priorities. You might create content that complements Family Hub sessions, school readiness initiatives, speech and language programmes, parenting support services, or local wellbeing campaigns.

Step 4: Share your ideas with confidence

To ensure families receive safe, high-quality information, all Local Practitioner Content is reviewed by the EasyPeasy team before publication.

Content should support positive parent-child interaction, be respectful, inclusive and non-judgmental, be relevant to early childhood development, and avoid misinformation, promotional content or inappropriate material. Our moderation team typically reviews content within 24 hours and will provide support or feedback where needed. Practitioners also receive guidance, resources and ongoing support from the EasyPeasy team to help them make the most of the feature.

Once approved, your content becomes available to local families through the EasyPeasy app. You can then signpost parents and caregivers to your content during sessions, appointments, home visits and community events. Simply use the share function from your profile or piece of content and send a link via email, WhatsApp, SMS, or other communication channel.
